What is PBIS?

PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.  A school-wide PBIS plan was developed by a team of teachers and administrators for the purposes of improving school climate, teaching students pro-social skills, and improving student achievement. Using a variety of data, including teacher and student surveys, the PBIS team works with the entire faculty and staff to develop and refine a set of school-wide expectations. These overarching expectations are further defined for each setting within the school, including the individual classrooms.

The overarching expectations are:
                                                                         Be Creative
                                                                         Be Conscientious
                                                                         Be Collaborative
                                                                         Be Committed

The PBIS plan strengthens student behavior by rewarding positive behaviors and implementing interventions and supports to help correct negative behaviors.  Each day all members of the school learning community attempt to foster and teach these expectations through modeling, posters or other visual reminders, and positive reinforcement.

PBIS is a national program for effective school behavior interventions and is implemented as part of the state's scientifically researched based interventions (SRBI) initiative.  To learn more about PBIS you can visit the school website or www.PBIS.org.
