Course Overview
This page contains general information pertaining to Dr. Nagle's science classes. The sub-pages contained under the "Course Overview" will give you information on the following:
*Areas of Study: This overviews the Board of Education approved curriculum, which follows
the Connecticut Department of Education Science Frameworks (Standards) and the new
Common Core Standards for Literacy in Science. In the near future, the district will begin to
re-write curriculum aligned to the newly adopted Next Generation Science Standards, which will
replace the Connecticut Science Frameworks in grades K-12.
*Interactive Notebook: This overviews the organization and use of the Interactive
Notebook style for organizing and interacting with the information learned in science.
*Science Expectations: This overviews the expectations that will be in place for the class
throughout the year. The student will also receive a paper copy of these expectations that s/he
is expected to read, understand, sign, and keep in his/her notebook.
*Grading Policies: This overviews the grading policy and determination of grades in science class.
This policy is the same for all three 8th grade teams.
*Quiz Re-Take Policy: This overviews the steps that students can follow in order to
re-take a failed quiz.
*What is PBIS?: This overviews the PBIS behavior system used school-wide. This system includes
expectations for behavior in school and in the individual classrooms.
*What is AVID?: This overviews the AVID program. The Purple Team teachers are AVID
trained and infuse AVID strategies into their classroom instruction.
*PowerSchool Parent Portal: This overviews the district policy for using the
PowerSchool Parent Portal and provides a link to the PowerSchool Parent Portal log in.
